As a luxury country house wedding venue in Devon, we’re proud to offer a setting that lends itself beautifully to each and every season. Picture yourself sipping on champagne in our Rose Garden on a balmy summer’s afternoon or imagine making your way through the picturesque woodland as the leaves are just starting to hold a subtle orange glow in autumn. The options are endless, but one thing will always remain the same; your wedding at Pynes House will be memorable, no matter was the season may be.
If you haven’t already guessed it, we’re walking you through the year with what you can expect from each season at our beloved family home and wedding venue. If you’re feeling a little clueless as to when you want to get wed, hopefully today’s blog feature will offer you a little guidance and inspiration…
SPRING
Spring is quite simply, an irresistible time of year at Pynes House. The long nights, winter blues and sharp chill in the air are gradually fading and there’s a sense of new beginnings and fresh starts – perhaps the perfect metaphor to reflect your new life together as newlyweds. Not only does the season signify the beginning of a new chapter, the flowers are just starting to bloom, and the gardens here really do look rather lovely. The tree-lined driveway that leads up to the main house is often laden with sunshine-yellow daffodils, while you can spoil guests of all ages with garden games in the late afternoon.
You’ll also have the option of various outdoor ceremony spaces, but should the unpredictable English weather decide not to play ball, we always have a plan B in place for those rainy spring days (April shower alert). The Entrance Hall is one of our favourite spots for a spring ceremony, as your guests can gather inside with the backdrop as their view should the weather be looking a little iffy. Receptions can take place outside in a marquee or in the Ballroom – an elegant, blank canvas space that awaits your celebrations!
SUMMER
It goes without saying; summer is without a doubt the most popular time of the year to tie the knot and it’s easy to see why. Endless sunny skies (fingers crossed), warm weather and the promise of love, laughter and joy. Just the thought of it puts a smile across our faces! Pynes House is particularly in its element during this season, with the trees looking full and green, the sunshine spreads itself across the rolling Devonshire hills and guests enjoy mingling in our various outdoor spaces.
An outdoor ceremony really is a wonderful choice for couples who are lucky enough to be graced with good weather. We’ve also had couples tie the knot under a bespoke wooden arbour, or with guests looking upon the doors of the Entrance Hall. You could even have a blessing in the gardens if you wanted to.
For couples who want to make the most of the weather, our expansive lawn space lends itself to a marquee affair. You can even opt for a marquee that rolls the sides up so that you can really make the most of our unrivalled views on offer. Alternatively, the Ballroom overlooks the grounds and gardens and can be decorated as you wish.
AUTUMN
There’s something quite romantic about the thought of an autumn wedding, isn’t there? The leaves are starting to transform from bright, luscious green hues to a colour palette overflowing with burgundy red and burnt orange, with the promise that winter is just around the corner. You can really embrace your wedding styling and floral design during this season, and we’ve loved seeing how couples have embraced the autumnal vibes. From mantelpiece delights adorned with blooms and the warm glow of candlelight, to our staircase drenched in the dreamiest of floral installations.
The Drawing Room has huge windows that fill the space with light, ready for your ceremony. While the Ballroom has space for a large reception using round or trestle tables – the choice is yours! When golden hour draws in, the patchwork of Devonshire hills act as a beautiful backdrop for your photographer to snap way, capturing the most magical memories possible.
WINTER
The temperature drops, the days get shorter and the enchantment of winter just adds to the magnificence of Pynes House – and we are sure you’ll agree! Whether you love the thought of an extravagant large celebration in the Ballroom, with a night of dancing, partying and sparklers exits. Or perhaps you may be more swayed to the idea of an intimate gathering, with roaring fires and just a handful of your favourite people surrounding you. Rest assured, no matter what your choice may be, our recommended caterers The Pickle Shack will be on hand to whip up some heart-warming winter treats for you and your loved ones to enjoy.
