An Inspired House
Devon Wedding Venue
Set in the picturesque Exe Valley, not far from Exeter but deep in the countryside, Pynes House is believed to be the inspiration for Barton Park in Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility. We’ve now opened the doors to this very special house so your wedding can find its home here. Imagine wandering through our woodlands on long summer days, taking your vows in our fabulous Drawing Room or enjoying a cosy winter retreat with those you love most in the world.
Make yourself at home
As you have exclusive privacy at Pynes House, you can unwind and enjoy the fabulous surroundings with your house guests before the big day. So, before the rest of your guests arrive, you might have already adopted Pynes House as your own.
From curling up in the Morning Room with a cup of tea or sipping cocktails in the Drawing Room, to strolling through our formal gardens, terraces and woodland, Pynes House is the perfect home from home.
The most important element
On any wedding day, the ceremony is the most important element and, at Pynes House, you’ll have a wonderful choice of locations for your vows.
Several of our state rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies and each has its own attractions and special features. The largest will seat 130 guests in splendid comfort and the smallest will be the perfect backdrop for the most intimate occasion. Or for an outdoor feel, marry on the Entrance steps, framed by the huge ornate doors.
Lavish Dinners to Marquee Celebrations
Enjoy drinks and nibbles on our delightful terrace, or relax on the lawns, perhaps with some croquet or garden games for additional entertainment.
Dinners and wedding breakfasts are always a highlight of any wedding and rightly so. Pynes House can accommodate everything from large, lavish wedding breakfasts to refined and intimate dinners in style.
And that’s not all because our lawns are also the perfect location for a marquee or tipi.
We’ve a long tradition of welcoming guests with warmth at Pynes House and it’s always such a treat to see everyone unwinding and settling in as soon as they arrive. From breakfasting together, exploring the estate or enjoying cocktails and a pre-wedding dinner, the time you spend at Pynes House will be unforgettable.
All twelve bedrooms at Pynes House have their own charms but our Bridal Suite is spectacular. As with all the rooms, it’s decorated in a classical yet contemporary style. Its size and outlook (not to mention the stylish four poster bed) make it the ideal haven for the morning of the wedding and it’s undeniably a superb room to retreat to at the end of your day.
Our prices are very clear and transparent and are set out for you in our brochure.
Hire includes the exclusive use of the state rooms in the house, the grounds and either six or twelve bedrooms from Friday until Sunday. If you are considering a marquee without use of the house (other than for overnight guests), then we can offer a further discount on the prices – just get in touch to discuss your needs.
Want a little more than a weekend wedding? Then Pynes House can be yours for longer if you’d like and we’re always happy to provide prices for extended stays. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if there’s anything you’d like to discuss or if you’d like to arrange a time to visit us to find out more.
