Is Pynes House a realistic option for couples based in Somerset?

Yes. Pynes House is approximately 25 miles from the Somerset border and around 45 to 50 minutes by road from Taunton and Bridgwater. For Somerset couples searching for wedding venues that offer something beyond the local options, Pynes House is well within reach and offers a level of exclusivity and character that is genuinely difficult to find. Many couples from Somerset and across the South West choose Pynes specifically because the country house setting and exclusive-use model are rare at this quality.

What does the Pynes House Elopement include?

The Pynes House Elopement, introduced in 2026, is designed for couples seeking one of Devon's most personal and intimate wedding venue experiences. It offers exclusive use of a ceremony space within the house or rose garden for up to eight guests, a dedicated team member throughout, full use of the house and grounds for wedding photography, and a celebratory bottle of fizz to mark the occasion. The introductory price is £1,000.

How far is Pynes House from Taunton?

Pynes House is approximately 45 minutes from Taunton by road via the M5 and A377. The address is Upton Pyne, Exeter, EX5 5EF. For guests travelling by rail, Exeter St Davids is the nearest mainline station, with direct services from Bristol and London Paddington, and Taunton also sits on the same line, making onward travel straightforward for guests without a car.

What is the maximum guest capacity at Pynes House?

The Ballroom at Pynes House seats up to 96 guests for a wedding breakfast and accommodates up to 130 for an evening celebration. For larger dinners between May and September, a marquee on the lawns can accommodate up to 130 guests. For smaller Somerset wedding parties, the house works equally well at an intimate scale, with midweek hire available for up to 30 guests.

Can guests from Somerset stay at Pynes House?

Yes. The 12 individually designed bedrooms at Pynes House accommodate up to 28 guests and are available exclusively to your wedding party for the duration of your hire. For Somerset couples whose guests face a drive home, having the whole wedding party under one roof for a Friday to Sunday hire removes that concern entirely and turns the journey into part of the celebration.

Is Pynes House licensed for wedding ceremonies?

Yes. Pynes House holds a full wedding licence, meaning your ceremony and reception can both take place here without the need for a separate venue. Ceremonies for Somerset couples and their guests can take place indoors in the Ballroom or State Rooms, or outside on the front courtyard with the Georgian facade of the house as a backdrop. The Church of Our Lady in Upton Pyne, just one mile from the house, is also available for couples who prefer a traditional church ceremony before returning to the house for the reception.

What hire options are available?

Most couples hire Pynes House from Friday to Sunday for a full weekend gathering. Midweek hire is available for celebrations of up to 30 guests with two nights of exclusivity, and bespoke quotes are available for smaller Somerset weddings. Day hire is possible in March, November and midweek. The Pynes House Elopement, introduced in 2026, offers exclusive use of a ceremony space for up to eight guests at an introductory price of £1,000.
