What is the minimum guest number for a wedding at Pynes House?

There is no fixed minimum guest number for an intimate wedding at Pynes House. The Pynes House Elopement is designed for two to eight guests, while midweek hire as a small wedding venue in Devon accommodates celebrations of up to 30 guests across two nights. Whether you are planning a micro wedding, an elopement, or a small intimate wedding, the house works well at any scale and bespoke arrangements can be discussed.

What does the Pynes House Elopement include?

The Pynes House Elopement, introduced in 2026, is designed for couples seeking one of Devon's most personal and intimate wedding venue experiences. It offers exclusive use of a ceremony space within the house or rose garden for up to eight guests, a dedicated team member throughout, full use of the house and grounds for wedding photography, and a celebratory bottle of fizz to mark the occasion. The introductory price is £1,000.

Can we hire Pynes House midweek for an intimate wedding?

Yes. Midweek hire at Pynes House is one of the most popular options for couples looking for small intimate wedding venues in Devon. Available for celebrations of up to 30 guests with two nights of exclusivity, it offers the full Pynes House experience, the house, the bedrooms, the rose garden, the State Rooms and a dedicated event manager, on a scale that suits a more personal gathering particularly well. Bespoke quotes are available on request.

Is day hire available at Pynes House?

Yes. Day hire is available in March, November and midweek throughout the year, making Pynes House a flexible option for couples planning intimate weddings in Devon who do not require an overnight stay. Whether you are looking for a ceremony-only option or a full day celebration, please get in touch to discuss your dates and what you have in mind.

Can guests stay in the house for an intimate wedding?

Yes. One of the qualities that sets Pynes House apart from many small wedding venues in Devon is the ability for the whole wedding party to stay under the same roof. The 12 individually designed bedrooms accommodate up to 28 guests and are available exclusively to your party for the duration of your hire. For very intimate gatherings, not all bedrooms need to be occupied, and the house retains its warmth and character at any guest number.

Is Pynes House licensed for intimate wedding ceremonies?

Yes. Pynes House holds a full wedding licence, meaning your ceremony and reception can both take place at this exclusive-use country house in Devon without the need for a separate venue. Ceremonies for intimate and small weddings can take place indoors in the State Rooms or Ballroom, or outside on the front courtyard with the Georgian facade of the house as a backdrop. The rose garden is also available for outdoor ceremonies.

Pynes House is located at Upton Pyne, Exeter, EX5 5EF, in the Exe Valley approximately four miles north of Exeter city centre. As an intimate wedding venue in Devon, the house is well placed for guests travelling from across the UK, with Exeter St Davids station offering direct rail connections from London Paddington and Bristol, and Exeter Airport under 20 minutes away by road.
