Food is a huge part of any wedding – it brings together your closest friends and family to celebrate your love story over a delicious feast – which is why we love nothing more than working with the team at Pickle Shack.
Underpinned by a team of Michelin trained chefs, Pickle Shack are our resident caterers, and offer an award-winning service for you to wine, dine and enjoy at Pynes House. They also work across Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Cornwall, with the ability to provide everything from an extravagant three-course wedding breakfast to a delicious sharing feast, not to mention those comfort food classics!
Canapés, evening food and post-celebration brunches – you name it, these guys can whip up something ridiculously delectable for all of your wedding catering needs. The team use as much as they can from local West Country suppliers, including meat, fish, fruit & veg and more.
We’re having a natter with Jodie of Pickle Shack so that you can find out more about all of their yummy delights on offer…

Tell us a little bit about Pickle Shack. How did it all begin?
Pickle Shack cut its teeth on the Pop Up Restaurant scene back in 2014. Our roving culinary adventure took us to unlikely locations throughout the South West, until one plucky couple popped the question “would you consider catering our wedding?”. Naturally, we jumped at the chance to be a part of such a special occasion, and quickly realised that wedding catering was our calling. We have now catered over 250 weddings, and earlier this year, were crowned the best wedding caterer in the country at The 2020 Wedding Industry Awards.

How would you describe the style and ethos of your catering options?
Pickle Shack is described as a leading foodie collective, and this sense of collective energy has become increasingly important as the business has grown. Our fabulous kitchen team, drawing on their experience within Michelin Starred kitchens around the world, ensure an irresistible melting-pot of classical and modern gastronomy, whilst our committed Event Managers warmly guide our couples through the process.
Our journey has led us to meet a host of brilliant businesses across the South West, who are growing, nurturing and creating stunning ingredients, too. We champion local, sustainable and ethically sourced produce so these businesses are a endless source of inspiration for our menus.

Which are you most popular menu choices?
We see a fantastic variety of menu choices, each to compliment and celebrate the unique love of our couples, their families and their friends. We encourage bold menu choices, and like to work with our couples to achieve the perfect balance of crowd pleasing classics and memorable masterpieces! The humble roast beef can be elevated to another level with input from our creative Chefs – can you pass the beef fat roasted carrots please, and go on then, a beetroot Yorkshire pudding too?

What are the FAQs from couples?
Feasting and drinking often form the framework of the wedding reception, and as such, it is important to consider your catering arrangements when deciding on your timings. Our experienced Event Managers are always happy to talk through your timeline, and advise on how things might flow best.

What do you love about working at Pynes House?
There are a lot of things we love about working at Pynes House, but chiefly, the wonderful team there. From our regular planning meetings with Heather and Kate, to working alongside Event Manager Jo to ensure your day is perfect, to the smiling faces of the bar team at the end of the night.
We are also utterly in love with our kitchen at Pynes House, which overlooks the remarkable Rose Terrace. The Italian inspired terrace is enhanced only by the sound of happy chatter as your wedding guests enjoy canapés and quaff champagne!

What catering trends do you anticipate for 2021 weddings?
On the plate for 2021, I predict an explosion of colour. The contrast between the romantic colour palettes typically associated with weddings, and the rich colours afforded by seasonal bounty, edible flowers and lavish feasting is quite irresistible!
I also foresee more plant based dishes in 2021. Vegetarian and vegan food has been hotting up on the culinary scene for some time, but only recently have we seen a noticeable shift in demand for plant based food at weddings. We love that our couples are being inspired by vegetarian and vegan cuisine, and that they feel confident in choosing it. We have recently added a number of new vegetarian and vegan dishes to our menu, and as always, are happy to discuss entirely bespoke options if you have something specific in mind.
