1 – Fairy Lights and Light Displays

Fairy lights and light displays are beautiful all year round, but there’s something pretty special about seeing warm, sparkling lights illuminating the early evenings of winter. In terms of fairy lights, it’s always a beautiful look to see them woven through tablescapes or displayed on mantlepieces. Fairy lights dotted around a room make for a lush backdrop for images too, which is always a bonus.

2 – An Abundance of Candles for a Country House Winter Wedding Aesthetic

Candles and a winter wedding often go hand in hand and they make for a pretty beautiful atmosphere. We’ve included some images of some of our favourite candlelit winter weddings below. Not only are their twinkling lights pretty eye-catching on tablescapes during the wedding breakfast, but some faux candles around the steps in the Entrance Hall or on small tables around the venue can also be a lovely touch – more on that down here though.

3 – Winter Berry Décor & Fresh Mistletoe

One of the best parts of a winter wedding is that you can truly utilise all the greenery that winter has to offer! Fresh mistletoe adorning the menu cards at a place setting or even winter berries nestled amongst the centre pieces of reception tables are just the beginning – read more on winter foliage and décor in our blog post on winter weddings, here.

4 – Statement Staircases

Following on from talk of twinkling candles illuminating the stone steps of our entrance hall, staircases can offer a perfect place to get a bit creative. You could think about adorning ledges and steps with abundant winter foliage, or even using fairy lights to light the way up the stairs. Either way, statement staircases are a great way to create a scene of richness and decadence for a country house winter wedding.

5 – Warm and Cosy Relaxation Areas

Think cosy fireplaces, draped blankets and warm fairy lights – having warm, comfortable areas to relax in during the evening festivities but also throughout the day can be a great addition to a country house winter wedding. Here at Pynes House, our Morning Room state room is often a popular place for guests and couples alike to take a moment away from the busyness of the wedding day and enjoy a warming drink and a chat by the hearth.

6 – Eye-Catching Winter Wedding Bouquets

There’s so much to love about the rich winter flowers and foliage on offer at this time of the year. Whether you go for the warming colours of burgundy foliage and wax flowers or you choose to incorporate cooler colours with thistles and white blooms, there are plenty of options – this article on winter wedding florals has some great ideas if you’re interested. In the interests of seasonality, it’s also important to remember that some of the typical wedding florals that you’ll associate with earlier months of the year won’t be available during winter, so be sure to have a chat with your florist about their recommended winter florals. We’ve included some images of some of our favourite winter wedding bouquets that we’ve seen over the years, just below.

7 – Dried Flowers as a Contemporary Seasonal Substitute

If you love the idea of a winter wedding but can’t quite bear to give up the lush summer blooms that the warmer months bring, dried flowers can be a great alternative. Whether they’re nestled amongst fresh, winter foliage or put together as standalone bouquets and arrangements, dried flowers are becoming increasingly popular and can be a great compliment to warm, winter tones. Plus, they could offer a pretty special keepsake following the wedding. We’ve got more on dried flowers and styling ideas in our extensive guide to winter weddings, here.

8 – Outfits with a Hint of Winter Decadence

In a guide to styling a country house winter wedding, it would be wrong not to mention the lush outfit opportunities that come with these cooler months. A perfect chance to choose something a little more decadent and luxurious, we’ve seen many a winter wedding with bridesmaids dressed in sparkly blush or gold tones. Whether this sparkle is just incorporated as a simple hair accessory or it plays a large part in the outfit, a country house winter wedding lends itself pretty well to a little understated opulence.

9 – Christmas Trees

It’s hard not to love a Christmas tree display, especially when it’s at a wedding! Here at Pynes House, it’s always an exciting moment in the year when the Christmas tree goes up. This year it’s going to be placed in the Drawing Room, which always creates a pretty special backdrop to reception festivities. We’ve included some images just below to give a sense of the winter magic that only a Christmas tree can bring…
