From the beautiful blooms adorning our front steps to a miniature pink and white sweet stand, Megan & Gareth’s bespoke Devon wedding is packed with plenty of wedding planning inspiration. One of the many things we loved about this wedding was their choice to host a beautiful dinner party at Pynes House the night before the wedding, in true weekend wedding style. On the wedding day, their dusty pink and white colour scheme was simply gorgeous, and a perfect complement for the minimalist décor. They kept their guests entertained with a cocktail hour, outdoor garden games and a DJ who kept everyone dancing right until the end. For those of you who love a vintage car at a wedding, they also turned up to the reception in a Jaguar MK2 – read on for more!

Some Words From the Bride…

Megan Says…
Pynes House was the only venue we looked at – we instantly fell in love with it! The main reason we chose Pynes House was for the fact that it was exclusively ours for the whole weekend. There weren’t any strangers around like you’d get in a hotel, so we were all completely relaxed. It felt like home for the weekend. Being able to have a homely dinner party the night before made it extra special for our families as we got to spend more time together. The layout of the rooms flowed perfectly. The rooms were so light and airy and the house and gardens were absolutely stunning. The location couldn’t have been more ideal for both the church in Shobrooke, and for guests getting to and from their hotels and the train station.
The Outfits…
I wore an A-line gown from Pronovias with lots of lace, lace illusion sleeves and a long, plain veil.
My bridesmaids wore dusty pink long wrap dresses with short sleeves from Maids to Measure.

The Day…
Our wedding day was better than we could ever have dreamt. I got ready at Pynes House and Gareth got ready at my Granny’s house in Shobrooke. We got married at Shobrooke Church, which is a very meaningful place to our family.
We rode in a Jaguar MK2 back to Pynes House, where we all had canapés and champagne in the sun. There were lots of pictures, chatting, garden games and bouquet tossing. Then we headed up to the bridal suite for ten minutes for fresh champagne and canapés, whilst everyone else was seated in the ballroom. After an incredibly tasty wedding breakfast, we had our speeches and toasts.
Evening guests then joined us in time for cocktails as the ballroom was transformed into a dance floor. We cut our cake (made by my sister/Maid of Honour) and then had our first dance, with one of my bridesmaids singing for us. Then came the father daughter dance, and a whole lot of dancing with all our guests! It was a perfect day, and we really felt the love from everyone.

The Look…
Our colour scheme was white and dusty pink. We kept the decorations very minimal, as Pynes House is stunning enough on its own. My Granny did all the flowers for the church, as well as the front doorsteps at Pynes House and the table centre pieces. We had our initials in flower letters on the fireplace in the ballroom, and table names were hand-written in photo frames. There was also a mini sweet stand (all pale pink and white sweets), and little things like an advice jar and first year anniversary messages. My bridesmaids made all the decorations, which made everything more special.

“We were so glad that we kept the number of organised group shots to 10, as it gave us more time to enjoy the day with each other and our guests.”

The Food…
Pickle Shack created our dream menu! We had a lot of allergies, including myself being gluten free, and it wasn’t a problem for them.
After a selection of delicious canapés outside, we had a starter of heritage tomatoes, roasted and marinated asparagus, pickled red onions and baby basil with ciabatta crisps. The main was seared chicken breast, pea puree, fresh peas and a creamy white wine sauce. It was with the best garlic and thyme roast potatoes we’ve ever had, and wilted seasonal greens and vegetables. Dessert was a lemon tart, whipped mascarpone, confit lemon and lemon syrup, which was incredible. Our guests have been raving about the food ever since!

The Entertainment…
Our family loves garden games, so the croquet set was very popular, along with other garden games we brought with us. We had a DJ for the evening. He was amazing and people stayed on the dance floor right until the end.

Most Memorable Moment…
It’s so hard to choose, but two of the most memorable parts are probably saying our vows and the speeches.
Something to Add…
Don’t worry about the little details and whether the schedule is on time, as the team at Pynes House are incredible and make sure everything happens without a hitch. Enjoy every moment and definitely take the venue’s advice and spend ten minutes or so before your wedding breakfast in the bridal suite with champagne and canapés, just to really soak up the day together as a couple.
Spend as much time together as you can during the day and don’t worry about splitting off to chat to everyone – it’s your day and people will understand.
Just to say a huge thank you to everyone at Pynes House for making our wedding so spectacularly perfect for us. We felt so special and cared for, and we can’t imagine we’d have felt the same anywhere else.
