Think pastel colour palettes, pink peonies and romantic elegance. From an open top vintage car to tug of war and sack races, Laura & Tom crafted a beautifully bespoke spring wedding. Their wedding also recently featured in the Tatler magazine‘s June 2021 British Edition, showing true testament to their envy-inducing style.
Some Words From the Bride…
Laura Says…
We fell in love with Pynes House as soon as we started driving up the driveway – what an entrance! The house is simply beautiful, with amazing grounds too. We felt that it had a Mediterranean vibe and that we really could have been anywhere in the world.
In terms of location, it was close to Exeter Cathedral where we had our wedding ceremony. We also loved how the house was ours for the whole weekend and how we could tailor our wedding day to a day celebrating us.
The Outfits…
My dress and veil was made by an Italian designer. I wore a fitted dress with quite a large train, which was adorned with Italian laces and beautiful beadwork. A local seamstress made a few dress alterations and suggested making the front of my dress slightly higher (Spanish design). This complimented my shoes, which were the Florence Crystal Embellished Heels from Bella Belle Shoes.
My four bridesmaids wore midi multi-way dresses, which were purchased from Lipsy. We chose two of the dresses in a dove grey and the other two in dusty pink.
The groom and all the groomsmen wore blue tweed and tan herringbone Mark Darcey suits from Zebel in Exeter. Our little 18 month baby boy matched wearing the same suit. We got a little bow tie made specially for him using the same tan herringbone fabric, to match with his daddy.
Some advice? Make it a day about you both.
The Look…
Our colour scheme for the spring wedding was soft, pastel tones. We left most of the decorating to my mum and her friend Gemma. Gemma owns Poppy’s Flower Studio and both are local florists and have a keen eye for design.
I particularly wanted to use peonies as my main flowers, which were luckily in season. We also used a lot of natural herbs and foliage like rosemary, mint and olive. They added a lovely fragrance, especially in the main ballroom where we had our wedding breakfast.
The Food…
All thanks and hats off go to Pickle Shack – they were amazing from start to finish! After a few sampling menus, we managed to put together a wedding breakfast that was about us. Most of our dishes were sharing style.
We had our wedding cake as our dessert. Our selection of wines and Prosecco were shipped from a vineyard in Italy.
The Entertainment…
We had a few memorable games on the lawn. From tug of war to a sack race, they got most of the competitive guests involved. I think our best men also did a good job and managed to get an audience of laughter with their speeches.
From the glorious sunny weather to walking down the aisle with the cathedral bells and partying into the night with our band Bill Ding & the Skyscrapers, it really was a day we had hoped for and more. We had a couple of years to plan our wedding day, so all the little extra details made our day even more special.
Most Memorable Moment…
When we were driving in our open top vintage car. We were going from Exeter Cathedral back to Pynes House just the two of us, husband & wife, just married, and we had a moment to take it all in. We were excited for the future but first excited to celebrate back at Pynes House with all our loved ones!
