We’re always fascinated by the personal touches each couple brings to their wedding. One of this year’s grooms flew the wedding rings in by hawk. Birds of prey can be seen at Pynes House (outside!), but happily they keep to themselves most of the time.
Apart from our ever-present stags, we are very lucky to have an abundance of wild (and not so wild) life around the grounds. Over the past seven days, we have spotted:
- a family of ducklings;
- a pair of buzzards;
- a badger;
- a mole and a toad on the same day (but no Ratty!);
- a baby deer (a fawn, if we’re being proper);
- many, many pheasants;
- Jingle, our resident mouse catcher; and
- one adventurous sheep who thought that the grass on our lawns looked tastier than the grass in her field.
Best of all though, we saw a nonchalant wallaby meandering through the woods the other day. That one threw us a bit and we did question our zoology skills, but it definitely was. Where it came from, or where it went, is a mystery!
We are thinking of launching a programme to compete with Springwatch!
