Becca and Owen celebrated their country house military wedding at Pynes House last August on what was one of the hottest days of the year! From the cake cutting with Owen’s military sword to the saxophone player during the outdoor drinks reception, it was a pretty memorable occasion. They also chose to host a cocktail hour after dinner, which is always a great way to kick off the evening festivities. Some Words From the Bride…
Becca Says…
Pynes House was the first venue we viewed and we instantly knew it was the place for us! The house and grounds are absolutely stunning and it was the perfect setting for a country house military wedding. We also wanted a venue that we could have exclusively for the whole weekend. We had the whole bridal party with us on Friday night and Sunday morning, which was so important to us.
The Outfits…
My dress was by Made with Love Bridal. My bridesmaids wore satin sage green dresses from Pretty Lavish. The men were either in military uniform or black tie.
The Look…
We had a military wedding with lots of guests in uniform (which was very tough for them in 30 degree heat!). The colour scheme was sage green / white florals.
We kept our décor quite minimal for the whole wedding. Pynes is so beautiful as it is, so we wanted to keep it simple and classic. Dotty Bee Floral Design created beautiful centrepieces for the tables and Entrance Hall, as well some arrangements in the Drawing Room for the ceremony. The florals were a mix of white and green foliage. We also added some gold details of candles and centrepiece bowls etc.
The Day
We wanted quite a timeless/ traditional wedding, to go with the military theme. We had the ceremony in the main Drawing Room. We then made our way to the rose terrace for prosecco and canapés in the sun, whilst listening to our amazing sax player (Franconi Music). It was one of the hottest days of the year! We then had speeches and our wedding breakfast in the Ballroom.
We cut the cake (with the Owen’s sword!). This was followed by a cocktail hour back out on the rose terrace – we had espresso martinis and mojitos. Then our evening guests arrived and we danced for the rest of the night!
Have a cocktail hour after dinner! We added this on very last minute and it was the best decision. It got everyone up and outside and ready for the evening reception.
The Food & Entertainment
Pickle Shack provided all the food for our country house military wedding. We opted for a sharing style dessert because we just could not narrow it done to one! We also decided to go for 3 main options so our guests could choose.
Starter: Smoked cheddar and parsley croquette, red onion jam, beetroot puree and dressed salad leaves.
Main: Seared chicken breast, pea puree, fresh peas and a creamy white wine sauce.
Rump of beef, mushroom puree, sundried tomato salsa and a red wine jus.
Goan spiced cauliflower steak, fried grains, toasted coconut and a coriander green sauce.
Served with garlic and thyme roast potatoes (the best roasties ever) and wilted green and vegetables.
Dessert: Sharing board of chocolate brownie, miniature éclairs, lemon posset, macarons with chocolate crumb and seasonal fruit.
For entertainment, we had a saxophone player during the post ceremony drinks on the rose terrace (Franconi Music). We also had a DJ (Bespoke Disco) for our evening reception.
Most Memorable Moment…
Wow that is so difficult to choose!
Owen’s most memorable moment was listening to our sax player, out on the rose terrace, drinking prosecco with our family and friends after the ceremony.
Becca’s most memorable part of the day has got to be the speeches. I will never forget the feeling of so much love in one room. Love for each other but also for our family and friends. The speeches were very emotional and I was absolutely overwhelmed by how amazing they were (I knew they would all do great speeches but they were truly incredible).
Something to Add…
Our country house military wedding was the most magical day and was everything we dreamed of and more. We feel incredibly lucky to have been able to get married at Pynes House. Everyone at Pynes made the weekend so special, the whole team are just amazing.
